Volunteer for the Parks SystemVolunteer Recognition Day

Volunteer Recognition Day honors the legions of volunteers who dedicate themselves to causes and helping others. They are making big and small differences in the lives of millions of people all over the world. They are saving lives. They are improving lives and providing comfort. They assist people, animals, and nature. Most volunteers do not ask for recognition. They just want to help and to "give back" where they can.

In documenting special and unique days, this author attempts to avoid editorializing, and keeps to reporting the facts. But, I will step away from the norm when speaking to this topic. It is vital and essential that more people get involved. There are so many groups and causes that need volunteer efforts. And, the needs are so broad and urgent, that everyone can find someplace to volunteer and make a difference.

Celebrate this "Volunteer Recognition Day by:
  • Thanking volunteers for their work
  • Getting involved in a volunteer activity
  • Donating to a volunteer group

Did you know there are varieties of opportunities to volunteer within your Parks System?

Conduct an Eagle Scout project by developing and implementing a plan for something needed within the Parks System. Don’t forget - your project must meet the following criteria:
  • Is the project something that the Parks System needs? Does the project help the park or county?
  • How will you implement the project?
  • How does your project allow you to show leadership? (Remember, you cannot do the project alone!)
  • Before you begin, has the Parks System approved your project? (To receive approval, you can email the Parks System at the address below.)
Conduct a Scout/Organization Service Project:
  • Anything your group does to help the park is considered a service project.
  • Remember to keep track of the number of hours you spend on your service project.
  • Before beginning your project, you must first get approval from the Parks System. (email the Parks System at the address below)

Assist in the following specialized areas:
  • Tour guide within one of our historic locations
  • Restoration
  • Landscaping
  • Special events
