Freeholder Deputy Director Singh Announces Upcoming Burlington County Events for 4/15-4/21

Freeholder Deputy Director Balvir Singh announces fun events next week in Burlington County.

“Did you know that the County hosts a variety of cooking classes at the Community Agricultural Center?” said Freeholder Deputy Director Balvir Singh, liaison to the Department of Resource Conservation. “Don’t miss this week’s cooking class where you can enhance your baking skills at the cake decorating class. Be sure to check out the monthly cooking schedule to find a class that interests you.”

Event: Preserving Bricks and the Buildings Made from Them

Date and Time: Monday, April 15, 7:00 PM

Join Carl Blaetz who led the Mount Holly Friends Meetinghouse restoration project funded by the New Jersey Historic Trust. Mr. Blaetz will discuss the proper materials for restoring an historic property and how they should be utilized. The presentation is sponsored by the Mount Holly Historical Society. This unique approach to history opens up discussion that compares events of the past to current events. A document will be provided for review. Open discussion on the material is encouraged but not required. You may come simply to experience various viewpoints on the subject. You never know where the conversation may lead. Event: Little Sprouts Preschool Gardening Club

Exploring Seeds, Pumpkin Relatives - This gardening program for preschoolers accompanied by an adult, focuses on gardens and plants, worms, mud, seeds, and work in the garden throughout the spring. Each meeting will focus on a different aspect of gardening. Please dress accordingly. Register online. There is no charge for this program, but participants must be Rancocas Nature Center members. Event: Hump Day After Work Hike

Like to hike, but don’t like doing it alone? Or, do you want to start walking outdoors? Come out for a brisk hike in nature at the perfect time to enjoy Spring’s awakening. We will enjoy the views week to week as the natural world comes alive again. There is no charge for this program, but donations are encouraged. Hikes continue each Wednesday through May. Event: Frog Call Surveys

Do you want to be part of a citizen science project to help Burlington County Parks gain important and useful data? Join Park Naturalist Kate Szostak as she conducts frog and toad call surveys to collect new data for the Parks. Attending the “Amazing Amphibians” program at the Burlington County Lyceum of History and Natural Sciences on March 13 is recommended to learn frog and toad calls, but not required. Event: Easter Cake Decorating Class

Join Cara Griffin from Sift Bake Shop in making an Easter Cake! Participants will use a pre-baked cake made by Cara to assemble and decorate and take home. The 8 inch, 3-layer cake can be stored so that it is perfect for your Easter celebration. $65 per person. To register click here

Event: Addiction Support Group Meeting

The Board of Chosen Freeholders is partnering with Ashley Addiction Treatment to host Addiction Support Group Meetings on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of every month. The individual battling addiction isn’t the only one in need of healing. Parent & Family Connection is a safe, professionally-facilitated resource for family members and parents/guardians that have a child or loved one in recovery or actively using. It’s a place to share support, wisdom, and perspective to help cope with the collateral effects of addiction.

Event: Nature Adventures for Preschoolers

“Rabbits and Raindrops” – April showers can be a fun challenge for newborn rabbits. This Friday indoor and outdoor program gets its weekly theme from a storybook! Geared for preschoolers ages 3-5 accompanied by a parent or guardian, each session will include the reading of a nature-themed picture book and a short weather dependent hike. Register online. Event: Saturday Naturalist-Led Walk

Date and Time: Saturday, April 20, 10:30 AM

Studies show that taking a walk in a natural area is good for your physical and mental health. Adults and interested teenagers can join a naturalist for a Saturday guided hike in the Rancocas preserve. Register online. There is no charge for this program, but donations are encouraged. Event: The Beauty of Boxwood 

Date and Time: Saturday, April 20, 1:00 PM

Boxwood has been used in American gardens since colonial times. What was its purpose? Why was it so popular? In this presentation garden historian, Alicia McShulkis, will discuss its American history and its past uses in the landscape. Refreshments will be served. Event: Burlington County 2019 Teen Arts Exhibit

Date and Time: April 18 – June 2, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Location: Smithville Mansion Annex Gallery, 803 Smithville Rd., Eastampton, NJ 08060

Visit Historic Smithville Park to see works by the talented teens of Burlington County. Schools throughout the region will be represented. This will be a great opportunity for students, families and the community to see the artwork in a gallery setting. Gallery hours: Thursday-Saturday 10-4; Sunday 12-4. Reception will be held April 27 at 1 PM.

Event: Art Exhibit, Emerging Artists, Dual Feature: Josh Toritto and Don Stephens

Date and Time: March 28 – May 5, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Location: Warden’s House Gallery, 150 High St., Mt Holly, NJ 08060

Rotating exhibits featuring works by different artists will be presented at the Wardens House in historic downtown Mount Holly. Each artist will be featured for a six-week exhibit in order to highlight their outstanding work. Joshua is an artist who has received his education through the Perkins Center of the Arts. Don Stephens is what you might call a Figurative Expressive Artist. Earning his education through Tyler School of Arts, he is also in communicator in the US Marine Corps Reserve. Thursday-Saturday 10AM - 4PM; Sunday Noon - 4PM.

Event: Art Exhibit 2019 Teen Arts State Touring Exhibit

Date and Time: March 28 – May 5, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Location: Worker’s House Gallery, 803 Smithville Rd., Eastampton, NJ 08060

This exhibit will include artwork deemed to be the best of the best created by students participating in the 2018 NJ Teen Arts Festivals. Teen Arts adjudicators selected these works from all of the entrants statewide. Come see works by budding young artists from our County and throughout the state. Gallery hours: Thursday-Saturday 10AM-4PM; Sunday 12PM-4PM.

Event: Hugh Campbell Collection Art Exhibit

Date and Time: March 1 - May 31, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

MOUNT HOLLY IN THE MID-20TH CENTURY THROUGH THE EYES OF HUGH H. CAMPBELL - Hugh H. Campbell was a man of many talents. He expressly captured his own view of Mount Holly via his paintbrush. He was an artist, published author and philosopher who lived an extremely minimalistic life. Learn more about him and see select works from the Hugh H. Campbell Collection.
