Meet the Burlington County Woman of the Week, Nicole Gillespie! Nicole is also one of the 2020 Outstanding Women of Burlington County Award Winners in the Category of Corporate Leadership/Advocacy!


Nicole Gillespie is the Mayor of Moorestown Township and President and CEO of the Knowles Teacher Initiative, a non-profit dedicated to improving math and science education in the United States.  In her role as President of Knowles, she oversees a staff of 22 employees and a $6 million annual budget to support hundreds of teachers across the country.  Nicole was named one of NJ’s Best 50 Women in Business for 2020 by NJBiz.  She graduated from the US Naval Academy with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and served as an active duty naval officer in cryptology for five years.  After returning to civilian life, she earned a MS in physics from the University of Washington and a PhD in science education from the University of California, Berkeley.  


She has served as an advocate for persons impacted by sexual assault with Contact of Burlington County, and was named volunteer of the year for 2018. She is a member of the Moorestown Business Association, the Moorestown Rotary Club and the Unitarian Universalist Church in Cherry Hill where she serves on the finance committee.  Nicole was elected to Moorestown Township Council in 2018, and served as Deputy Mayor in 2019.
