Smithville Park - This exciting new program, part of a new series, involves using special flashlights with filters that allow us to see UV-induced fluorescence, an amazing phenomenon that would normally be invisible to us. Various plants, invertebrates, mushrooms and more glow in different dazzling colors at night. Meet at the Smithville Visitor Center off Meade Lane. Led by Park Naturalist Jen Bulava. For ages 10 and up. Due to limited supplies, registration is mandatory. Series will continue during winter months.
Mary Carty and Steve Carty, mother and son, are exhibiting baskets from their collection that the public rarely gets to see. From unusual baskets they created based on antiques in their collection to traditional baskets woven from unique fibers, the display is captivating. The exhibit will also include native British Colombian baskets circa 1890 and baskets from the next generation of their extended family.
