    By 1790, Burlington County had the largest black population of New Jersey’s southern counties and the largest free black population in the state.  Burlington County had a significant Quaker presence, and many slaves were aided by this group’s commitment to freedom for all races.  Some of the earliest of organized African-American communities can be found here.  In honor of Black History Month, Marisa Bozarth will tell the stories of the people and places that contributed to this strong African-American presence in Burlington County.
