The Burlington County Cancer Coalition is committed to effectively and efficiently supporting cancer prevention, education, early detection, treatment, and advocacy for all county residents to help reduce the cancer burden. The BCCC is made up of The Burlington County Health Department, community organizations, local hospitals, cancer prevention programs, cancer survivors and more. The concept is to get everyone around the table to discuss how the cancer burden in Burlington County can be eliminated. It was originally derived from a document called the Burlington County Comprehensive Control Plan.
The Burlington County Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan (administered by the Burlington County Health Department) is a branch of the
New Jersey Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan (CCCP).
The New Jersey Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan is a written document that outlines various innovative approaches to coordinating and integrating cancer control activities in New Jersey. The CCCP is administered by the Office of Cancer Control and Prevention at the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of Epidemiology, Environmental and Occupational Health. The CCCP was developed by the Task Force on Cancer Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment in New Jersey (Task Force) in conjunction with the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program. Twelve workgroups, totaling nearly 350 individuals, compiled goals, objectives and strategies for seven cancer sites and five overarching issues.

Burlington County Cancer Coalition Plan for 2008
Goal #1: The Burlington County Cancer Coalition (BCCC) will bring together public and private agencies and health providers to reduce the cancer burden the cancer burden in Burlington County.
The 2004 Burlington County Cancer Capacity and Needs Assessment will be utilized as background information to develop and promote information sharing and project/program collaboration on cancer care efforts in the county.
Objective 1.1: To maintain a Coalition Coordinator position to facilitate implementation of coalition strategies.
Objective 1.2: To hold quarterly Coalition meetings to guide county level involvement in cancer prevention, screening, education, medical care activities, palliative care, and projects/programs using work groups for specific action steps defined in the yearly plan as developed by the Coalition.
Objective 1.3: To work with the Burlington County Health Department and physicians and oncologists in the county to disseminate information related to the Burlington County Cancer Coalition and activities planned throughout the region related to education, prevention, and screening efforts for early detection and prevention of cancer.
Goal #2: The Burlington County Cancer Coalition will identify priorities using available data and from the 2004 Burlington County Cancer Capacity and Needs Assessment and develop strategies to address these priorities.
Objective 2.1: To increase awareness and participation of county residents in efforts to decrease the incidence of lung cancer, to educate youth to never start smoking, and to advocate for more smoking cessation programs for the uninsured or underinsured.
Objective 2.2: Work with an ad-hoc committee to increase sustainability of programs by advocating for routine screening of breast, cervical, colorectal, prostate and other cancers as determined by the Coalition with particular emphasis on low income, minority groups, and uninsured residents.
Objective 2.3: Pursue sustainable funding to develop and maintain a media/education campaign and a public relations campaign for cancer awareness, prevention and early detection.
Objective 2.3.1: Host a county-wide cancer information event to publicize the Burlington County Cancer Coalition, the Burlington County Cancer Capacity and Needs Assessment Report, and the New Jersey Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan for the general public and potential coalition members.
Objective 2.3.1.1: Participate in planning a tri-county educational event that publicizes the Burlington County Cancer Coalition, Burlington County Cancer Capacity and Needs Assessment Report and the New Jersey Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan for the general public, medical professionals and potential coalition members.
Objective 2.3.2: Assure an ongoing process to update the Burlington County Cancer Education and Information Resource Guide.
Objective 2.3.3: Establish a Burlington County Cancer Coalition website including sections on cancer education, services, and list of partners for community and healthcare providers by June 30, 2007.
