Meet the Burlington County Woman of the Week, Lisa Killion-Smith!
Lisa Killion-Smith is a resident of Cinnaminson for over 20 years. She and her husband, Patrick, raised and educated their 2 children, Kearsten and Jacob, in the Cinnaminson school district. Pat, a Marine Corp veteran, and Lisa have been together for over 22 years.
Lisa has been Executive Director for Resources for Independent Living (RIL) for the past 15 years. RIL provides services to assist people of all ages and all disabilities to remain independent in their communities. In 2005, Lisa saved this Burlington County non-profit, which was on the brink of collapse, and turned it into a thriving organization with a multi-million dollar budget. Under her leadership, RIL increased the scope of its services and programming and won the Inglis ACE award for Continuing Excellence, which recognizes community organizations providing exemplary services or advocacy to people living with disabilities. Lisa also runs Adult Protective Services in Cumberland County, which protects vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. In addition, she writes and manages all of the grants for her agency and has been successful in securing millions of dollars for her organization and its partners. She has started many programs for individuals in Southern New Jersey that has served over 20,000 people. Lisa has successfully helped over 800 individuals from transitioning or entering nursing facilities and institutions.
Lisa is also very active as a volunteer, serving on several state and local advisory boards, including New Jersey Statewide Independent Living Council (Past Vice Chair appointed by Governor Chris Christie), Money Follows the Person for the State of New Jersey (Co-Chair), Burlington County Aging Advisory Council, Burlington County Women’s Council, Burlington County Community Development Committee and many others. She has also volunteered for numerous social service organizations providing a variety of programming, such as case management, utility assistance, dog and equine therapy, and support groups, to a range of New Jersey residents.
