Merrill Reese may be best known as the “Voice of the Eagles” but he’s also helping to find loving homes for many of the dogs and cats at the Burlington County Animal Shelter.
Reese, the longtime play-by-play radio announcer for the Philadelphia Eagles and the host of the “Merrill Reese Show” on WBCB 1490 radio, recorded a new public service announcement encouraging listeners to consider adopting from the Burlington County Animal Shelter.
The announcement is being broadcast regularly on WBCB 1490 radio as a public service for the shelter and its animals. Reese, who is also a part-owner and General Manager of the radio station, offered to record it after learning about the shelter and the fantastic job its staff and volunteers do caring for the hundreds of lost or abandoned dogs and cats that come into the shelter annually.
“Hi, I’m Merrill Reese, the voice of the Philadelphia Eagles. I’m taking a break from football to tell you about the Burlington County Animal Shelter,” Reese says in the spot. “There are dozens of cats and dogs waiting for you to adopt. Please consider providing one of these adorable animals with a loving forever home … Call 609-265-5073 to plan a visit to the shelter soon. Your next best friend may be waiting for you.”
Burlington County Commissioner Felicia Hopson, who is the Commissioners’ liaison to the shelter, said the support from Reese and the radio station couldn’t have come at a better time.
April 30 is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day and in recognition of the occasion the shelter is reducing all adoption fees by $25 for the entire month. Typically, the fee for adult dog adoptions is $75 and the fee for adult cats is $45.
“Merrill was already beloved in Burlington County, but his offer to record the PSA promoting our animal shelter demonstrates how very special he is and how much he cares about the communities he broadcasts to,” said Burlington County Commissioner Felicia Hopson, the Commissioners’ liaison to the animal shelter. “We can’t thank Merrill and WBCB enough for helping to raise awareness about the shelter. The pets at the shelter receive a tremendous amount of love and attention from our shelter staff and volunteers, but we all want what’s best for them, and that’s to find loving forever homes. If anyone is looking for a new loyal companion, now is the perfect time to visit the shelter and meet some of the wonderful dogs and cats that are available.”
The shelter is located at 35 Academy Drive in Westampton and is open for visits and tours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 PM and Thursdays from noon to 7 PM. It is closed for public visits on Wednesdays. People are encouraged to call ahead at 609-265-5073 to schedule an appointment.
