Burlington County residents will be able to find election results sooner and in a more user-friendly format on the Burlington County website.

Thanks to a software upgrade, the Burlington County Clerk’s Office will be able to post unofficial election results on a new Election Results page in real-time as they are received and tabulated. The website also features a sleek new design that shows result totals numerically and in graphs and map formats.

The results page can be accessed from the Burlington County Clerk’s section of the County website at http://www.co.burlington.nj.us/192/County-Clerk .

Burlington County Clerk Joanne Schwartz said the changes deliver increased transparency and convenience.

“Free elections and the right to vote are fundamental parts of our democracy and we want county residents to be able to find up-to-date results quickly and in formats they can easily understand,” said Schwartz. “The new Election Results website helps us deliver that and more. It’s transparent, functional and secure, and will allow anyone interested in what’s taking place in our elections to easily find the results they’re looking for.”

In past elections, unofficial results in Burlington County were posted in a PDF format that was updated only a few times during Election Night. The new system will provide live result updates throughout the night, providing election observers real-time information about the results as they are counted.

The results will also be broken down by vote type (vote-by-mail, early voting, election day machine and provisional), and for the first time, residents will be able to see the status of the count for each precinct in real-time with color-coded maps shows whether each precinct has begun to report, has partially reported or has completely reported their vote count.

“Voters can be confident that our elections are safe and secure. We believe this new website will deliver results more promptly in a format that is easy to find and engaging,” Schwartz said.

Election Day voting

Election Day polls will open at 6 AM on Election Day and remain open until 8 PM. All registered voters will be permitted to vote with a machine at their regular polling site, except for those voters who requested a vote-by-mail ballot or voted with a machine during the early voting period. Voters on the vote-by-mail list who show up at the polls will be permitted to vote with a provisional ballot.

Anyone in line at 8 PM when polls close will be permitted to vote.

Completed vote-by-mail ballots must be submitted to the U.S. Post Office and postmarked before 8 PM to be counted. Vote-by-mail ballots may also be placed in one of 28 secure drop boxes located throughout the county or hand-delivered to the Burlington County Board of Elections Office at 50 Rancocas Road. Drop box locations are listed at: https://nj.gov/state/elections/vote-secure-drop-boxes.shtml

No ballots will be accepted at the Elections Office or in drop boxes after 8 PM.
