Rancocas Nature Center

    February 27, 2020, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Rancocas Nature Center

“Seven Sisters and a Brother: Friendship, Resistance, and Untold Truths Behind Black Student Activism in the 1960s” – This newly available biography tells the story of seven women and one man at the heart of a sit-in at Swarthmore College. It depicts student protests related to reduced Black student enrollment, decreased hiring of African Americans as staff members, and the lack of a Black Studies curriculum. Written by the Swarthmore students, the book also includes autobiographical chapters, providing a unique cross-sectional view into the lives of young people during the Civil Rights era. Co-author Harold Buchanan will share stories and read excerpts from the book. Signed copies will be available at the program. Register online. There is no charge for this program, but donations are encouraged.
