    This exhibit, Causa sui (pronounced kau?. sa 's?. i) is a Latin term relating to a philosophical hypothesis denoting that something is self-generating or self-creating. Artist Jaquie Solimeo offers her take on abstract painting and what makes her love it so much. As imperfect humans, she thinks that we can feel so aware of that imperfection that the process of creation and expression like art can be tainted. When Jaquie sees art that she carefully planned, created and recreated, and toiled over, it seems ugly because what she really sees is this all-consuming battle against imperfection. Her experience with abstract art, however, is that it's almost as if it creates itself. There’s no plan, no expectation, no anxiety…and in the end when she looks at it, she finally sees art and beauty.

  5. Secret World of Plants and Pollinators (online)

    This presentation by Naturalist Jen Bulava will focus on the incredible ways in which plants communicate with animals. Flowers are not pretty colors and pleasant smells for us - it's all about the pollinators. Discover amazing strategies of plants, and ways in which both plants and animals can help or deceive each other. Did you know that a bee's eye view is extremely different from what we see? Participants will find that taking a much closer look at flowers can open up an entire hidden world that is more complex and fascinating than one ever imagined. This live webinar is part of the NJ Pinelands Commission’s Pinelands Speaker Series. All of the webinars will be livestreamed on their You Tube channel, and also recorded and archived for later viewing.

  6. Drawing From Nature

    Draw from a natural setting with a natural subject in this outdoor workshop. The class is led by Leeannwyn Stoner who is a New Jersey resident and Syracuse University BFA Painting graduate. Leannwyn studied DRAW with sculptor Lawson Smith and is a Hiram Gee Fellowship recipient. A working artist and Fine Art instructor, Leannwyn believes and teaches that drawing is the basis of all creative arts. During this light instructional class, Leeannwyn will discuss different types of drawing techniques and skills. All artistic levels are welcome. Feel free to bring your own drawing material or use some of ours.
