Established:
- In 1984 legislation mandated the establishment of county based Intoxicated Drivers Resource Center (IDRC)
- NJSA 39: 4 - 50
Purpose:
All drivers who are convicted of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Refusal of the Breathalyzer are required to complete a twelve (12) hour drug and alcohol education program. All County IDRC Programs comply with Chapter 162 Intoxicated Driving Program Regulations.
The Burlington County IDRC provides the mandatory two day education program. Additionally, each client is screened by an alcohol and drug counselor to determine the need for services. The program provides individuals with a treatment resource guide which includes substance abuse treatment programs, counseling services, and self help groups available in the community. All clients referred to treatment are monitored throughout the treatment process by the IDRC. This includes monitoring the treatment of Burlington County residents who have been convicted of a second DUI and mandated to attend a 48 hour regional IDRC program.
The IDRC program is governed under the Intoxicated Drivers Program of New Jersey and the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
