What if you break a CFL at home?

  • Open a window to air out the room and shut off central forced air systems.
  • Use gloves to pick up pieces.
  • Never use a vacuum.
  • Pat area with the sticky side of duct or masking tape.
  • Wipe area with a damp cloth or paper towels to pick up fine particles.
  • Place all cleanup materials in a sealable container or plastic bag.
  • Take to County Hazardous Waste Facility or call 609-499-5200.
