The Philadelphia Eagles are headed to Super Bowl LIX and fans are invited to the Burlington County Animal Shelter for a special pregame “Pup Rally” on the day of the big game.
The Animal Shelter is partnering with Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter to host the 2nd Annual “Tail”-gate Open House on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 9. From noon to 4 PM, visitors are invited to tail-gate at the shelter and meet several of the dogs and cats available for adoption or foster.
As an incentive, all adoption fees will be waived the entire Super Bowl week from Feb. 2 through the open house event on Feb. 9.
There will be music, snacks, the shelter’s version of a training camp obstacle course and other football and animal-themed games/activities. Visitors can also watch part of the Discovery Channel’s Puppy Bowl at 2 PM on a big-screen.
“Super Bowl Sunday is a special occasion for families and friends to get together and we’re looking to make it extra special by connecting people to our shelter’s champion pets,” said Burlington County Commissioner Tyler J. Burrell, the liaison to the animal shelter. “Burlington County is supporting the Philadelphia Eagles in the big game, but Chiefs and other fans are welcome to come help find loving forever homes for the animals at the shelter.”
Among the available pets to meet is Buddy, a 4-year-old pit bull terrier who first came to the shelter in 2022. He’s described as a very outgoing dog who loves both exercise and cuddles.
Last year, Chief, a pit bull terrier mix who was the shelter’s longest dog resident was one of five dogs adopted during the shelter’s Super Bowl open house. This year, the shelter is hoping for more Super Bowl-fueled success.
“We’re rooting for an Eagles victory but also adoptions for Buddy and many of the other wonderful dogs and cats at the shelter,” said Commissioner Burrell. “No matter what team you favor, make a plan to visit the shelter before the game and help us find new homes for the available animals.”
The Burlington County Animal Shelter is located at 35 Academy Drive in Westampton. Information and photos of all the shelter’s available dogs and cats can be found online at https://www.co.burlington.nj.us/1446/Available-for-Adoption.
Last year, 1,344 cats and 453 dogs were adopted from the shelter.
Residents who are unable to adopt or foster can still help the shelter and the animals housed there by following the shelter’s social media and spreading the word about the available dogs and cats living there.
