[ARCHIVED] Freeholder Deputy Director Singh Announces Upcoming Burlington County Events

Freeholder Deputy Director Balvir Singh announced that for the upcoming week there will be a variety of events taking place in Burlington County.

“Our Resource Conservation Department and Division of Parks do a great job of hosting many weekly events for our residents. We want to get the word out so that everyone can take advantage of these programs right in their backyards,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Balvir Singh, liaison to the Department of Resource Conservation.

Event: Crossroads of the Revolution: Trenton, 1774-1783

Date and Time: Tuesday, March 12, 7:00 PM

Location: Burlington County Lyceum of History and Natural Sciences, 307 High St., Mount Holly, NJ 08060

Author William L. (Larry) Kidder will discuss his recent book “Crossroads of the American Revolution”. Mr. Kidder taught high school history for forty years and has been an interpreter and historian for Howell Living History Farm in Hopewell, New Jersey for thirty years. He is a member of the Washington Crossing American Revolutionary War Roundtable, the Association for Living History, Farm, and Agricultural Museums, and serves on the NJ Living History Advisory Council and the Crossroads of the American Revolution Advisory Council. The presentation is sponsored by the American Revolution Roundtable of South Jersey. Event is free to attend. Registration requested. Event: Wednesday Preschool Story/Music Time

Date and Time: Wednesday, March 13, 11:00 AM

Location: Rancocas Nature Center, 794 Rancocas Road, Westampton Township, NJ 08060

Leprechauns - It’s good luck to learn about the little green creatures. This approximately hour-long program will discuss leprechauns. Children will enjoy hearing 3 short stories read aloud, separated by 3 songs that are played along with rhythm instruments, and create a leprechaun themed craft. This program is geared toward children ages 2-5, but older and younger children are welcome. Register online. Event: Little Sprouts Gardening Club

Getting the Garden Ready, All About Leaves - This gardening program for preschoolers accompanied by an adult, focuses on gardens and plants, worms, mud, seeds, and work in the garden throughout the spring. Each meeting will focus on a different aspect of gardening. Please dress accordingly. Register online. There is no charge for this program, but participants need to be Rancocas Nature Center members. Event: Amazing Amphibians

Why are amphibians so important to our ecosystem? Where and when can we find them? Why do frogs and toads call during the spring? Find out more about the incredible lives of frogs, toads, and salamanders that call Burlington County home. Presented by Park Naturalist Kate Szostak. If you are participating in this year’s frog call surveys, this is an excellent opportunity to learn or brush up on frog and toad calls! Frog surveys are April 18 & 25, and May 24 & 31.


Event: Hump Day After Work Hike

Like to hike, but don’t like doing it alone? Come out for a brisk hike in nature at the perfect time to enjoy spring’s awakening. We will enjoy the views week to week as the natural world comes alive again. Register online. There is no charge for this program, but donations are encouraged. Hikes continue each Wednesday through May.


Event: Breakfast Meal-Prep Cooking Class

Event: Life That Glows

This exciting program, part of a series, involves using special flashlights with filters that allow us to see UV-induced fluorescence, an amazing phenomenon that normally is invisible to us. Various plants, invertebrates, mushrooms and more glow in different dazzling colors at night. Led by Park Naturalist Jen Bulava. Due to limited supplies, registration is mandatory. Event: Saturday Naturalist-Led Walk

Studies show that taking a walk in a natural area is good for your physical and mental health. Adults and interested teenagers can join a naturalist for a Saturday guided hike in the Rancocas preserve. Event: Alice Paul: New Jersey's Heroine for Equality

Alice Paul was one of the most influential women in America, leading the final fight for women’s suffrage and championing equal rights for women through most of the 20th century. Most people are unaware of the pivotal role this Mount Laurel native played in procuring the political rights American women now enjoy. This presentation and discussion explores Alice Paul’s life, her roots in the New Jersey Quaker community, and her work for women’s rights in the U.S. and around the world. MOUNT HOLLY IN THE MID-20TH CENTURY THROUGH THE EYES OF HUGH H. CAMPBELL - Hugh H. Campbell was a man of many talents. He expressly captured his own view of Mount Holly via his paintbrush. He was an artist, published author and philosopher who lived an extremely minimalistic life. Learn more about him and see select works from the Hugh H. Campbell Collection.


Event: Exhibit: Willingboro Art Alliance Open Show
