The Burlington County Office of Emergency Management is preparing to update the County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan for the county and all 40 county municipalities.
The plan is required by the federal government and State of New Jersey for Burlington County and local communities to remain eligible for mitigation funding to reduce risk and improve communities resiliency to various types of disasters.
The plan focuses on existing buildings and infrastructure as well as future development that could potentially be impacted in the future. It also includes risk assessments to identify hazards that could impact the County and its towns and potential mitigation projects that reduce vulnerabilities and help communities become more resilient.
The Burlington County OEM is beginning the update process with a meeting of the 2025 Hazard Mitigation Plan Update Steering Committee, which is made up of County officials and representatives from the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management, local schools, businesses and municipal governments. The group is scheduled to meet virtually on Aug. 22 at 10 AM.
A separate Hazard Mitigation Plan Partnership group has also been formed with representatives from Burlington County municipalities interested in participating. That group will virtually meet on Aug. 29 at 10 AM.
