Burlington County Health Department Launches New Mobile Health Vehicle

Home - County News Posted on April 02, 2026

Burlington County continues to take steps to boost community health with the launch of a new Mobile Health Vehicle to bring important health screenings, outreach and other services directly to local communities.

The Burlington County Commissioners and Burlington County Health Department unveiled the new vehicle Thursday during the Rowan College at Burlington County Spring Into Good Health Fair. During the event, Health Department staff offered general health screenings, flu and COVID vaccinations, training on the use of Narcan overdose antidote and other health tests and outreach to college students and staff.

“Burlington County is home to more than 460,000 people spread across 820 square miles. It’s our responsibility to protect our residents and ensure all communities have access to resources and services that promote good health and safety,” said Burlington County Commissioner Randy Brolo, the liaison to the Burlington County Health Department.  “This vehicle makes our Health Department better equipped to fulfill its mission and deliver critical services to vulnerable residents, regardless of whether they’re insured or have access to transportation. It’s a great addition and we want to thank Burlington County’s partners in the Legislature for helping to secure the funding that made this possible.”

The Mobile Health Vehicle is a converted recreational vehicle specially outfitted to deliver health services in local communities. It contains two exam rooms, a registration/consultation area and bathroom. It is wheelchair accessible, climate controlled, has running water for sinks, and a refrigerator for vaccines and patient samples.

The vehicle was acquired and outfitted by the County with a $538,730 appropriation added to the FY 2024 State Budget via resolution sponsored by State Senator Troy Singleton and Assemblywoman Carol Murphy.

The vehicle will be deployed to various community events throughout the year. The Health Department’s goal is to expand staff to allow it to deploy twice a week to prescheduled locations throughout the county.

Burlington County has applied for additional grant funding to support the expansion.

“Collaboration is key to community health, and the Mobile Health Vehicle is an investment in preventative care and outreach that is proven to make a difference in health outcomes,” said Burlington County Health Department Director Dr. Holly Funkhouser Cucuzzella. “It’s possible because of dedicated staff and health care workers and because of the support we receive from the Commissioners and partners in all levels of government.”

Enhancing public health infrastructure

Congressman Herb Conaway, a physician who served as the Burlington County Health Department Director from 2019 until the end of 2024, said simple health screenings like blood pressure checks and blood glucose and cholesterol levels can be critical since those conditions often don’t generate symptoms.

“The health screenings, outreach and other services the Mobile Health Vehicle will bring to Burlington County communities can potentially be life saving for those who aren’t able to access routine medical checkups and care,” said the Congressman. “It’s great to see Burlington County continue to implement these types of programs to improve access to care and ensure all residents are able to obtain preventative services.”

The launch of the Mobile Health Vehicle is the latest improvement made to Burlington County’s public health infrastructure. Last fall, the County rededicated the Raphael Meadow Health Department Building in Westampton following renovations to expand the clinical space and improve access so it can function as a mass vaccination site if needed.

The improvements were funded with a portion of the $6 million federal public health grant awarded to the County through the New Jersey Department of Health and the New Jersey Association of County and City Health Officials.

This past fall and winter, the Health Department administered more than 920 flu vaccines and the distributed closed to 3,200 free COVID/Flu test kits. And during the last two quarters of 2025, Health Department staff tested 641 patients for HIV/AIDS.

“Good health needs to be accessible to everyone, and I’m proud to see Burlington County create programs that deliver vital health services and resources directly to vulnerable, underserved populations who need them the most,” said State Senator Troy Singleton.

New Jersey Assemblywoman Andrea Katz and Assemblyman Balvir Singh were also present for the vehicle launch and college health fair.

“As a mom of three teenagers, I know how easy it is to put your own health on the backburner. Life gets busy and doctor appointments can quickly fall to the bottom of the list. This mobile unit is going to remove those the barriers and make it easier for people to take the first steps,” said Assemblywoman Katz. “Access matters. Convenience matters. Meeting people where they are matters. I’m grateful for everyone who helped make this mobile unit possible, and I’m proud to support efforts like this that focus on prevention, earlier detection and keeping our communities healthy and safe.”

“Health care is about access, so having a vehicle that is able to travel around to offer services where you are is a great asset for our community,” added State Assemblyman Singh. “It takes real resources to make something like this possible, but the return on this investment is measured in healthier communities, earlier diagnoses and lives changed for the better.”
