Public Health Student Internship Opportunity

The Burlington County Health Department offers student interns a unique and highly competitive opportunity to delve into the field of public health. From ensuring food safety to collaborating with coalitions for improved health access and influencing health policies, our work is critical to public health initiatives.

  • Are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program related to health sciences, public health, environmental studies, nutrition, nursing, or a related field.
  • Exhibit strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in public health and community health services, and health policy.

What You Will Do:

  • Participate in vital public health projects, from research and data analysis to community outreach and educational programs.
  • Work alongside experienced public health professionals, gaining insights into the field’s complexities and the various career paths available.
  • Contribute to initiatives aimed at disease prevention, health promotion, and policy development.
  • Experience the workings of a health department firsthand, including regulatory compliance, health surveillance, and emergency response.

Internship Details:

  • Duration: Internships are offered during the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. Specific start and end dates will be discussed upon acceptance.
  • Hours: Flexible; typically, Monday through Friday with occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Compensation: This is an unpaid internship, but we assist with academic credit and a wealth of experience in the public health field.
  • Location: Burlington County Health Department, with opportunities for fieldwork.

Application Process:

  1. Submission Deadline:
    1. Spring Semester (Jan-May): Apply by November 1
    2. Summer Semester (May-Aug): Apply by March 1
    3. Fall Semester (Aug-Dec): Apply by June 1
    4. NOTE: Nursing students seeking a maximum of 20 clinical hours, must submit their application a month before their ideal start date. 
  2. Required Materials: Resume, official or unofficial transcripts, course syllabus, and a completion of the of the intake form.
  3. Selection Process: Due to the competitive nature of this program, not all applicants will be selected for an interview. The chosen candidates will be contacted for an interview with our team.
